A Memory Called Empire, the first book in the Teixcalaan universe, was published in 2019 by Tor Books (North America) and Tor UK/Macmillan (UK and other English markets).

A Memory Called Empire won the 2020 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 2020 Compton Crook Award, and was nominated for the Nebula, Locus, and Clarke Awards.

It has been translated into german, romanian, french, Turkish, Polish, Hungarian, and Czech. translations into chinese, italian, and Spanish are in progress.
