The Fourth Place is a locally-owned community space, event venue, and specialty retail shop— and the Upper Valley's home for everyone who loves games, comics, and geek culture.

We are looking for a part-time host responsible for opening the business on weekends. Hours are 10:30 am to 5:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, plus flexible hours on Tuesday evenings.

Our Hosts are responsible for everything from welcoming guests, facilitating events, checkout, keeping the space welcoming and safe, to stocking.

Age Requirement: 18+ Preferred, 16+ Considered

Responsibilities:

  • Open and Host the Place (without supervision after training period)
  • Hosting our community space includes welcoming guests, giving tours, explaining member benefits, providing information on free activities and events, enforcing COVID precautions, keeping space welcoming, safe, and fun
  • Facilitate public and private events, including organizing resources, posting information, coordinating with event organizers
  • Act as cashier and salesperson, including selling products, passes, food, and drink at checkout, recommending products and activities
  • Customer service and hospitality, primarily in-person, plus answering phones and online chat messages
  • Additional work including stocking, inventory, cleaning, trash/recycling removal, and projects
  • Encourage a culture of positivity, fun, diversity, and inclusiveness, and help enforce a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry and harassment

Training Schedule: Minimum two weeks learning, shadowing, and working with supervision, hours to be arranged during summer business hours

Schedule: 18-20 hours per week (or more)

  • Saturdays and Sundays: 10:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Tuesdays: 4-5 hours, flexible (afternoon or evening)
  • Other Days: Additional shifts offered when needed, including sick day coverage for other staff, busy events, etc.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in or graduated from high school (or equivalent/higher)
  • Must have affinity with some of the hobbies or fandoms represented in the space
  • Preference given to applicants with sales, customer service, hospitality, and/or youth supervision experience
